Metal Trades President Criticizes Appeals Court on NSPS Decision
Washington, D.C.—“We are deeply disappointed that the U.S. Court of Appeals failed to recognize the blatant injustice and the logical inconsistency inherent in the disputed provisions of the National Security Personnel System,” declared Metal Trades Department President Ron Ault. He said the Department and its affiliates representing workers in the U.S. Department of Defense will continue to oppose implementation of the system despite the Court’s decision.
At the same time, Ault hailed the overwhelming May 17th vote (397 to 27) in the House of Representatives which specifically withdraws DOD’s authority under NSPS.
I find it ironic that the White House chose to characterize NSPS as a “partnership” with DOD’s workers in reaction to the House action while they continue to hammer us to accept totally autocratic rule. There is no bargaining if management has the total power to refuse to listen.”
Ault said the Department will continue to work on a legislative solution. “This administration has virtually no credibility with members of either party in Congress. We will press our case there,” he concluded.
