‘Meet and Confer’ Officially Ends

Leaders of the United DOD Workers Coalition (UDWC) met with Acting Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England on June 16, 2005 to officially close out the Meet and Confer period under the National Security Personnel System.

At that session, Metal Trades Department President Ron Ault castigated DOD and OPM for their complete failure to accommodate any of the expressed concerns brought to the process.

“There were 58,000 public comments and 139 pages of proposals from UDWC and [DOD and OPM] didn’t see fit to incorporate anything we brought to the table. DOD’s workers have been given no respect. NSPS destroys the rights of workers and challenges the very existence of organized labor. They have left us with no choice but to fight to see that this system is never implemented,” Ault said.
